Litografia Maia has been producing and selling decks of playing cards of the finest quality since 1926. It is the only one of its kind in Portugal and one of the oldest in Europe. The factory has moved on from lithographic printing to offset, but does continue, nevertheless, to use special paper and to hand-finish its cards - which sets them apart from all the others available in the market. A worldwide reference, some of Maia’s playing cards display a very peculiar detail: the Joker is replaced by the image of a Donkey, which allows children to play a very popular Portuguese children’s game called “Donkey”.
