Caracteristics:
Bag containing 100 gr Dr. Bayard cough candies. In 1939, Lisbon became a safe
harbour for Europe’s war refugees. And one day Álvaro Matias, a young grocery
assistant in downtown Lisbon, bumped into a Frenchman called Dr. Bayard. In
those difficult times, they developed an unlikely friendship. Álvaro learned
French, helped as a guide and would come up with food when the going got tough.
When it was time for departure, the French doctor thanked him with his most
precious possession, a formula developed by himself for cough candies, that
were first produced in 1949. Nowadays, the factory makes four tons of these
outstanding candies per day, following a secret recipe using sugar, glucose and
honey, dissolved in medicinal herbal tea. They became extremely popular and are
as delicious as the story behind them.
Measurements: 15 x 12 cm. Total weight: 105 gr.
