Caracteristics:
Hand-painted
colourful small tiles, portraying typical Portuguese scenes or motifs, with
themes that can range from love to the countryside or fishing, for instance. Precious
things of beauty in the shape of a tile.
Fábrica Viúva Lamego has been creating and reproducing
hand-painted tiles ever since 1849. It became one of the leading brands in this
decorational art mastered by the Portuguese. The naive tiles picked by A Vida
Portuguesa result from the collaboration with several artists encouraged by António Ferro, the brain behind the imagery of Salazar’s
regime. Throughout the years, the collection has been enriched by the factory
craftsmen, responsible for the faience produced in site, in an unmistakably
Portuguese style.
